Tips for New Consumers

When it comes to consuming Cannabis you must know your own tolerance level, ‘start low and go slow’ is the best advice for those who are unfamiliar with its effects.  If you consume a product which is THC dominant, begin by taking the minimum amount and increase slowly until the desired effects have been achieved.  The goal is to maintain optimal functionality without overstimulating the Cannabinoid receptors.

Microdosing is a technique used to control the overall effects by precisely dispensing small amounts of Cannabis, low enough to not cause full-body effects.  Slowly building up to a tolerance level you are comfortable with.  This could be as little as one puff of a joint, one drop of a tincture or one bite of an edible product with 2.5 milligrams each.  Every individual feels the effects of Cannabis differently, which is why it is so important to experiment.

There are plenty of delivery method to choose from when consuming Cannabis.  There are several different types of combustion and ingestion options. There are even external methods like topicals and patches.  Each method has different advantages and disadvantages, allowing individuals to customize treatment plans to suit their needs.

It can be common to ‘green out’ when you are new to Cannabis, or when you have simply consumed too much.  The symptoms vary from person to person and include nausea, dizziness, increased heart rate and general distress; none of which are fatal.  This is due to the overstimulation of Cannabinoid receptors in the brain.  You can counteract some of the effects by staying hydrated, fruit juice is best.  Do something enjoyable like take a walk, or have a nap and most importantly by staying calm.

Those who are allergic to Cannabis, who are pregnant, have a history of alcoholism, mental psychosis or heart issues should not consume Cannabis.   Never consume alcohol with Cannabis, as the results can be unpredictable and will increase the level of intoxication.  Always consult a physician before beginning any treatment plan. This general information is not intended to diagnose any medical condition or to replace your healthcare professional.

When in social ‘smoking’ situations new consumers must beware as temptation can be high to try new products.  Do so in moderation and with ample time in between sessions to ensure you have a pleasant experience.  Avoid negative and embarrassing experiences by knowing your tolerance so you don’t get turned off.
